Kids’ Workshops (2-hours), appropriate for all ages

Families with children as young as infancy are strongly encouraged to attend.

This creative, hands-on educational workshop is specifically for parents and their children. The Kids’ Workshop consists of two parts:

First, parents learn how children perceive hemophilia at different ages and varying levels of understanding. The primary focus of the parent presentation is to demonstrate how children learn through play. Parents are provided with inventive tools and unique strategies for teaching their children.

Second, parents and children come together to participate in interactive learning stations that facilitate learning about bleeding disorders. Parents will experience how readily doors to communication open through the educational practice of play.

Junior Scientist (45 minutes), appropriate for ages 9-15

We have updated our Junior Scientist program, which is targeted for 9 to 15-year- olds. This program includes new hands-on activities where the "scientists" research to learn about dominant and recessive traits in humans. A chromosome-matching activity and building a double helix model of DNA help the kids learn about their unique genetic code. At the end of the workshop, the "scientists" get to do a final experiment that allows them to isolate their own DNA and view it in a test tube.
